Robert Henry Wicoff

Robert Henry Wicoff, 87, of Danville, went into the loving arms of Jesus, at 9:55 a.m. Sunday, March 4th, 2012, at VA Illiana Healthcare Palliative Care ward, surrounded by family. He was born on October 9th, 1924, in Danville, the son of Cyril Otto and Nina (Dunn) Wicoff. He joined the United States Navy on January 19th, 1943 serving on the U.S.S. New Jersey. He was honorably discharged February 19th, 1946. After he was discharged he met a nurse named Rita Wyss, he fell madly in love and married her August 4th, 1947 at St. Rose Church in Monroeville, Indiana. She preceded him in death on February 19th, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memory; his children- Greg of Danville, Jeff (Karin) of Clearwater, Florida, Julie and John of Danville; grandchildren- Nicole of Danville, Chris of Japan and Tony (Bess) of Clearwater, Florida; and great-grandson- Cameron of Danville; brothers- Gerald, Ron (Barbara) and James of Danville; and sisters- Rita (Tom) Howell and Barbara Rupert of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters- Loretta, Mary Ann and Carol Jane and son-in-law- Mike Lamey. He retired from General Motors in 1986. After retirement he and mom became "snowbirds" in Florida. When returning in the spring he volunteered as a Red Vest at Provena till health issues forced him to quit. Daddy raised us with faith and love. He had a kind heart always giving to charities. We'll miss this sweet, quiet man all our lives but we know he's in Heaven at peace and happy with the Lord. We would like to thank Dr. Horner for all of his care, the Staff on the Palliative Care Ward at the VA for treating dad with dignity and compassion and helping us too. Also the staff at North Logan Healthcare for being so good to dad, especially his "2nd Floor Girls" you're all special. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7th, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville, with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Danville National Cemetery with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post #210. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church for masses. Please join Robert's family in posting memories, photos or videos on his tribute wall at: www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
