Robert G. Dowers

Rileysburg, Ind. -- Robert G. Dowers, 71, of Rileysburg and formerly of Georgetown, Illinois, passed away at 11:08 a.m. EDT Friday, September 11, 2009 at his residence in Rileysburg. He was born February 28, 1938 in Vermillion County, Indiana, the son of the late Robert W. and Vivian Pearl Cronkite Dowers. Survivors include his children, Jean Ann Bates of Georgetown, Illinois and her sons Brandon and Brock and their father Barry Bates; Billy(Edith)Dowers of Cayuga, Indiana and their children Omeika, Billie Jo and R.C.; Larry(Saretha)Dowers of Columbus, Indiana and their son Matthew; one great granddaughter; one sister, Edna(Ron)Brink of Cayuga, Indiana and one brother, Jack Dowers of Danville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by one brother. Robert retired February 1993 as a truck driver at General Motors in Tilton, Illinois. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Robert was a Danville High School graduate. He enjoyed collecting train memorabilia and old tractors. He especially enjoyed NASCAR and dirt racing. Andy Spencer; Burial: Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Indiana; Visitation: Monday, September 14, 2009 from 1 p.m. EDT until time of services at the funeral home.
