Robert Edward Flessner, 87, of Rantoul passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the American Lutheran Church, Rantoul. The Rev. James Lehmann will officiate. Burial will follow in Eden Park Cemetery, Rantoul.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove, Rantoul.
Robert was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Urbana, a son of Ekke and Anna (Johnson) Flessner. He married Karen Sjoken on Nov. 4, 1962, in Gifford. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Rodney (Connie) Flessner of Thomasboro, Rich (Bridgett) Flessner of Armstrong and Mark (Malissa) Flessner of Rantoul; a brother, Hans Flessner of Rantoul; a sister, Joane Wilson of Rantoul; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Bob was a 1954 graduate of Rantoul Township High School where he excelled in baseball. He then went on to play EI Baseball for many years. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 1. 1959, and trained at Ft. Sill, OK. He was extended for three months due to the Berlin Crisis, then released on March 1, 1962. On March 16 of that year he met his wife and they spent 62 years married. Bob was employed at Hamburg Distributing for 30 years and then 20 years of driving the bus at Rantoul Township High School.
