Robert was born on September 26th, 1915, in Danville, the son of Max and Emma (Drews) Muecke. He married Edna Fransisca Pelman Mickey on September 28th, 1952, in Champaign, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 5th, 2011. He is survived by two daughters- Kittie Moll and Kay Hanley of Champaign. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister- Elizabeth Guy. Robert graduated from Danville High School. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army for 3 years during WWII, serving in the Philippines and New Guinea. While in the Army during WWII, Robert changed his name from Muecke to Mickey after frustration that his name was always mispronounced. He loved his time in the Army and told Army stories up until his death. His first job was at the age of 16 as a typewriter repairman for Vern Reck Typewriter Sales and Service. He left for 3 years while he was in the Army and returned to his job. He bought the business in the early 60's when Vern Reck retired and changed its name to PDQ Mimeographing. He owned it until he retired in the early 80's. He was a lifelong member of Danville United Church of Christ. He enjoyed animals, nature, cats, bird watching, telling Army stories and watching westerns and CNN. He also collected and restored antique typewriters. His collection will be placed on loan at the Vermilion County Museum. Robert requested no visitation or service be held. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Danville United Church of Christ, the Humane Society or adopt a homeless pet in his honor. Sunset Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
