Danville Robert F. Knapp, 87, of Danville, IL passed away at 5:37 PM at his home in Danville on August 6, 2021.
Robert was born on April 28, 1934 the son of Leonard and Mayme (Gokie) Knapp at the family farm home in near Deloit, NE. He married Lois Ann Jackson on October 22, 1960 in Woonsocket, SD and she preceded him in death on August 28, 2020.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth (Brian) Howland of Bloomington, IL, two grandchildren, Westley Howland and Joah Howland both of Bloomington, IL, two stepbrothers, Jerry (Jeanette) Tomjack of Ewing, NE and Grover Shaw of Wilber, NE, one cousin, Doris Bollwitt of Ewing, NE as well as special friends, Donald Christianson, Vernon Rockey and Don Ruroede.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois Knapp, one son Patrick Knapp, and one daughter, Pamela Kelly.
Robert attended rural grade schools for eight years to which he rode three miles each way on a horse against the wind. He graduated from Ewing High School in Ewing, NE. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army for two years. After his service to his country, Robert attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE for one year, transferred to South Dakota State College for four years and earn his degree in Pharmacology. He worked as a Pharmacist in Sioux Falls, SD as well as at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, Tomah, WI and Danville, IL as Chief of Pharmacy Service. In addition to the VA facilities, he worked part time at Carle Foundation Hospital as a Pharmacist.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed traveling, playing golf, woodworking projects and spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church 444 East Main Street, Danville, IL 61832. Father Steven Loftus will officiate. Burial will be in Woonsocket, SD with his wife at St Wilfrid Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until Noon on Friday August 13, 2021 at the church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the American Diabetes Foundation.
