Robert Evan Rasmussen

Robert "Bob" Evan Rasmussen, 82, of Champaign passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023, at home. He was born June 9, 1940, in Rantoul, IL the son of Evan "Peanuts" and Doris {Rodgers} Rasmussen.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Carol Sue {Jones} Rasmussen, daughter, Julie Rasmussen, two grandchildren, Cole (Mariia) Rasmussen, and Hadyn (Sarah) Rasmussen, daughter-in-law, Marie Rasmussen and 18 nieces and nephews, 38 great and 17 great-great and his granddog Libby.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Robert II, William, a daughter, Joni, and two sisters, Jo Ann Munnis and Karon Rasmussen.

Bob graduated from Champaign High School in 1958, where he lettered in three sports and went on to receive his Bachelors degree in 1963 from Furman University, Greenville, SC. While attending Furman he was captain of the baseball team his senior year. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity.

Bob's love of baseball continued throughout his life. He was a team member of the 1st C-U Kiwansis Little League Twin City Champions, played Legion Baseball, and EI League. His traveling senior softball team won two Senior National Championships. Bob was also a member of the Champaign County Bowling Association for over 40 years. He was a lifelong U of I and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He was a brick mason employed by Rasmussen Masonry until he opened his own business with his wife in 1970, Rasmussen Pool 'n Patio. They enjoyed the many friendships that were made during their 52 years in business.

Bob will be remembered by family and friends for his smile, generosity and zest for life.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Bobs name to The United Way of Champaign County 5 Dunlap Ct, Savoy, IL 61874, Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis 3450 Park Avenue St. Louis, MO 63104 or donors choice of charity.

Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, Illinois 61820 on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 1pm with Tim Ferrill officiating. Visitation will be held prior from 11am to 1pm. Following the service, burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign.
