Robert Eugene Walblay

Robert Eugene Walblay, 87, of Westville, Illinois, died Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, Illinois. Robert was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Danville, Illinois, to Jack and Frances (McCullough) Walblay and attended school in Westville. He grew up in the colorful world of his father's tavern, the Klondike, and enjoyed listening to stories from the immigrants, old-timers and coal miners. He loved history, reading and his family. He married Barbara Joyce Falconio in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville on Jan. 28, 1950. In 1959, Robert, along with John P. Meyer and Mertyce A. Meyer, established Trans-Continental Insurance Brokers Inc., 516 N. Gilbert St. He served as president until 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack E. Walblay. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, whom he loved with all his heart; a brother, Douglas (Beverly) Walblay of Fort Mill, SC; and four children, Robert (Mary Kay) Walblay of Waynesville, Ohio; Ron Walblay of Delray Beach, Florida; Dorrie (Rick) Jones of Westville; and John (Marsha) Walblay of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) Minogue, Karis (Claudio) Troncoso, Rob (Kyle) Walblay, Ryan Walblay, Holland Walblay, Fielder Walblay, Rick (Stephani) Jones, Nick Jones, John Henry Walblay, Jacob Walblay, Ezra Walblay, Hannah Walblay and Elijah Walblay, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Thomas Minogue, Owen Troncoso, Alex Troncoso, Hadley Walblay, Gavin Walblay, Rylee Jones, Madison Jones and Anna Jones; and his several nephews and nieces. A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 11:00am, Friday, March 9, 2018, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, with Father Saupp officiating. Visitation will be held 5pm to 7pm, Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the funeral home with Rosary Service at 4:30pm. He will be laid to rest in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Westville.
