In Loving Memory of Robert Lee Eldridge
February 7, 1953 – June 2, 2025
Robert L. Eldridge, 72, passed away at his home in Newport on June 2, 2025. He was born February 7, 1953 in Danville, Illinois, to the late Irvin Eldridge, Sr. and Helen {Fleener} Eldridge. Robert graduated as valedictorian of his high school class and was known for his willingness to always lend a hand to those in need. His generosity extended beyond just his own community, though; he gave monthly to organizations around the world. He kept his faith at the center of his life and attended the New Song Worship Center in Eugene for many years.
Robert worked at the MasterGuard manufacturing facility of Flex N Gate for over 20 years. He worked as a press operator and a welder both throughout his career with them. He was also well-recognized for the 25 years he spent working at Wright’s Ice Cream. Outside of work, Robert enjoyed tending to his garden and woodworking. Ever the outdoorsman, his true passion was mowing his lawn. Robert looked forward to spending time with his family and grandchildren more than anything else. He will be dearly missed.
Robert married Cathy Stonebraker in 1986, and made wonderful memories together in the nearly 4 decades of marriage until his passing. She survives. Also, surviving are their children Clayton (Jessica) Eldridge and Katie (Jeffrey Coons) Eldridge and grandchildren Isabella & Zelda Coons. He is survived by his stepmother Rosella Eldridge; several siblings, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by several of his siblings.
A Celebration of Robert’s life will take place at 12 pm on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the New Song Worship Center, located at 4719 N. Elm Tree Road in Cayuga, 47928. A dinner will follow. Per his wishes, Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s DeVerter Chapel in Cayuga has assisted his family with cremation arrangements. Please join Robert’s family in sharing memories, photos, and videos on his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
