CHAMPAIGN-Robert E. Davidson, 80, of Champaign, passed away at 3:59 am on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Robert was born on March 29, 1933 in Urbana, Illinois the son of Albert and Iola Stewart Davidson. He married Beverly Gleason on March 7, 1954 in Urbana, Illinois. A 1951 graduate of Urbana High School, Robert went on to Eastern Illinois University and the University of Illinois. He was the President of JM Jones Supervalu in Champaign, retiring at the age of 57 after leading the company to its first billion dollar year. Robert was a great golfer, and had two holes in one throughout his golfing years. He was a member of the Lincolnshire and Venice Golf and Country Clubs. Robert was an avid Illinois fan, and a huge football fan. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor, high energy, and his leadership. Robert leaves behind two daughters, Barbara (Tom) Frasca of Champaign and Cindy (Ron) Johnson of McKinney, TX; and four grandchildren, Gabby and Emily Frasca, and Robert and Stephen Johnson. Preceding him in death is his wife Beverly; parents; and two sisters, Patricia Veach and Delores Goodell. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 1st 2014 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N. Neil St, Champaign. A Celebration of the Life of Robert Davidson will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the funeral home, with Pastor James Blue officiating.
