Perrysville, IN- Robert Dean Carpenter, age 73, completed his earthly journey at 7:45 PM, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Hawthorne Inn. He was born May 16, 1938 in Milford, IL, the oldest son of the late Mary Gale (Rush) Carpenter and Thomas Glenn Carpenter. He was a graduate of Danville High School and received his pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Bob married his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Jean Reynolds, on January 15, 1966 at Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL. They moved to their country home in 1975. Bob loved snow and skied for many years. He enjoyed sitting in his swing on the patio mostly when it was raining or storming. Most of all he enjoyed traveling with his entire family his grandkids. Bob retired after 52 years in Pharmacy on June 30, 2011; He had worked at Carson Pharmacy, Woodbury Drug/Gulick Pharmacy, the Polyclinic Pharmacy, and at the V.A. Illiana Healthcare System. He was a Boy Scout leader for the Boy Scout Troop in Perrysville, Indiana for years, and mentored at Meade Park School through Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He attended Second Church of Christ in Danville. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughter Lisa (Carpenter) Barker of Tilton, Illinois; and son John (Shanna Voorhees) Carpenter of Argenta, Illinois; five grandchildren Sidney and Logan Barker of Tilton and Joshua, Shelby, and Caden Carpenter of Argenta, Illinois. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Logan Carpenter of Orange County, California; his sister, Mary Ann Carpenter of Mattoon, Illinois; Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. He is further survived by other relatives, friends, and his best friend, Rao Uppuluri. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Glenda Gaile Finley, and two nephews, Cameron Shawn Cripe and Frank Finley. Services for Robert Dean Carpenter will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17th, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Drew Mentzer officiating. Burial will be immediately following services at Sunset Memorial Park. There will be a private family viewing from 3pm to 4pm Thursday, February 16th, 2012. Friends and family are invited to visit Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois on Thursday February 16th from 4pm to 8pm.
