Robert D. Davis, Sr.

Danville, IL – Robert D. Davis, Sr., 93, lifelong resident of Danville, IL passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Brenden Gardens Retirement Community in Springfield, IL. He was born October 6, 1932, in Danville to Jay C. and Elcia L. (Stambaugh) Davis. He married his loving wife of 72 years, Mary Lou Barton, on May 29, 1953, in Danville. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2025.

He is survived by a son, Robert (Judy) Davis, Jr. of Springfield, IL; a granddaughter, Melinda (Suzette Blanford) Davis of Carterville, IL; two sisters, Dorothy Wonderlin and Laura Curry; sister-in-law, Lawanda Buchanan and a brother-in-law, Hugh King; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and seven siblings, Jo Ann Davis, Emma Mullins, Gerry King, Viola Sliva, Irene Cunningham, James Davis, and Jean Davis.

Not long after finishing at Danville High School, Bob began his career at R&S Printing in Danville. There he would work for 46 years until retiring as the Printing Supervisor. Bob and Mary Lou loved to stay active and would take walks every day, a hobby Bob would attribute to the birth of his granddaughter and the desire to keep up with her. Bob and Mary Lou would visit the Smoky Mountains twice a year, accumulating over 3,500 miles during their hikes. They also loved their winter trips to Florida where they would enjoy long walks on the beach. The outdoors were an important part of Bob and Mary Lou’s life and they enjoyed taking in the scenery and hiking, especially during the changing of the seasons in the Smoky Mountains. Golf was a big part of Bob’s life as well, and he would continue playing well into his later years. Bob and his golf buddies would be out most every day to walk nine holes. Bob and Mary would often golf together and with family. A tradition of golfing with family on Father’s Day was especially dear to him. Bob also loved to spend time with his family, especially his granddaughter who he loved dearly.

A service to celebrate the life of Robert D. Davis, Sr. will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Ryan Harris will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Thursday, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials in Bob’s name may be made to Hope Unlimited Church in Danville.
