Robert Carl Thompson

Danville - Robert Thompson, 77, passed away on September 25, 2016 at Presence USMC in Danville, IL. He was born in Danville to Carl and Ethel (Drews) Thompson on October 16, 1938. Robert married Roberta Berry on December 22, 1962 in Georgetown, IL, she survives. He is survived by his sons, Micheal (Kathy) Walker of Danville, Bob Thompson Jr. of Danville; daughter, Janet (Brad) Constans of Plainfield, IN; sister, Sharon Bly of Danville; grandchildren, Rachel (Klayton) Walkaufson of Bloomington, Allen (Ashely) Walker of Dixon, IL, Morgan (Josh) Spiering of Danville, Lexington Spiering of Danville, Bryer Constans and Tyler Constans of Indiana, Jerrica (Chadd) Snyder of Ogden; great-grandchildren, Elysia Spiering, Delilah Walker and one on the way; son-in-law, Tim Spiering; nephews, Gary Bly of Dallas, TX, David Parsons of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Thompson; daughter, Cathy Spiering; son, Greg Walker; granddaughter, Ciera Spiering. Robert proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He is a member of the Danville American Legion, Danville VFW, U.S.S. Lexington Museum of Corpus Christie, TX and IBEW. Robert had a love for antique cars and cheering on the Cubs and White Sox. He enjoyed being outside gardening, fishing and playing cards. A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 10 AM Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Kent Tibben will preside. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Robert's name to the Danville American Legion or Trinity Lutheran Church.
