Robert C. Courson, Sr

Robert C. Courson, Sr was born December 31, 1933 at 503 Plum Street, Danville, Illinois to Elda Sim Courson and Nora (Adkins) Courson and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 16, 2023.

Robert was the second youngest of their 11 children, Arthur (Clide) Courson, LeRoy, Walter, Arlo (Blackie), Alita, Alfred (Bud) Carl, James, Dora Lee, Robert and Eunice (Cookie). Siblings Clide, LeRoy Walter, Arlo, Alfred, Carl, Alita and Dora Lee preceded him in death, as did his father and mother and wife, Wilma.

Robert married the love of his life, Wilma Jean (Yeats) Courson on February 13, 1953, in Pickett, AK and they were married 62 years before Wilmas passing, October 4, 2015.

Robert and Wilma were the parents of Dr. R.C. Courson, Jr. and his wife Linda of Bedford, Indiana and daughter, Pamela Jean Hewitt and husband Paul of Holly Springs, North Carolina. Robert and Wilma have 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert "Grandpa" Courson served in the U.S. Army and returned home to Danville, Illinois in 1955. Having completed his business degree, he devoted his career to retail sales and investments. Robert retired following a 40-year career as a General Accounts Agent and broker with Allstate Insurance Company.

Robert and Wilma enjoyed traveling abroad to Europe, South America, and the Caribbean Islands and throughout the United States. Dad and Mom together enjoyed the restoration of older homes, antique furniture and restoring antique automobiles.

Their favorite antique autos were their 1939 Packard and a 1924 Chrysler. Robert and Wilmas priorities were well-established in their lives; Love the Lord, serve in the church, provide for your family and friends and work with a passion.

Robert accepted Christ as his personal savior as a young child and attended First Baptist Church and later in life Robert and Wilma fellowshipped with Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Al Rudie.

Robert and Wilma enjoyed entertaining in their homes in Catlin and Danville, Illinois. Robert enjoyed restoration, repairs, reading and relaxing with Wilma and the children on travels and outdoor activities.

As a family we express our sincere appreciation to Father and Mothers many dear friends, to their neighbors, church family and career associates. Dad and Mom are together again.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Dr Robert C. Courson, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 9-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
