Robert “Bob” Dale Brooks, a beloved husband, father, and steadfast member of his community, passed away peacefully at home in Westville, Illinois, on May 23, 2026. Born on October 21, 1945, in Danville, Illinois, Bob’s life was a testament to devotion, kindness, and an enduring love for family and faith.
Bob's journey began in Danville and took him through a rich tapestry of experiences. After serving honorably in the United States Air Force, he attended Eastern Illinois University and ultimately graduated from Sangamon State University. His career centered on the intricate skill of molding machine repair at General Motors, where his dedication and work ethic were hallmarks of his professional life.
Robert married the love of his life, Betty Miller on October 7th, 1972 in Catlin, Illinois and together they shared 53 years of faith, family and joy.
Faith was at the core of Bob’s identity. A devoted member of the Westville First Church of Christ, his spirit was deeply enriched by the fellowship and community it provided. Beyond his church family, he was a proud member of Russell Lodge #154, the Westville Sportsman Club, and the Westville American Legion—organizations that reflected his commitment to camaraderie and service.
Bob’s warmth and humor brightened the lives of many, especially his daughter-in-law, Chris, and niece, Nicki, who always got a kick out of his witty humor and greatly missed. His kindness was known to all who had the privilege to know him, painting a picture of a man who balanced strength with tenderness. Bob found immense joy in the outdoors, with a particular love for fishing, mushroom hunting, and any activity that carried him into nature’s embrace.
Among Bob’s most cherished memories were the family vacations, especially those magical trips to Disney, where laughter and joy were shared in abundance. These moments underscored the profound love he held for his family—a love he carried with pride as his greatest accomplishment alongside his enduring faith.
Bob is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Betty; his son Rob and daughter-in-law Chris; and their cherished grand kitties, Juju and Willow. The extended family who treasured Bob includes his sisters-in-law Joyce Miller and Sally Miller; his nephews Russell (Stephanie) Miller , Wesley Miller, Josh Miller, and Michael (Lindsay) Miller; his special niece Nicki (Paul Storke) Miller; Along with several great-nieces and great-nephews, especially three he held close to his heart were, Lauren (Evan Walworth) Winters, and Draycin Miller; and Justin (Lilli Hutson) Slazas. Among his treasured circle were also his special friends Jim Bolton, Ray Gill, and Mike Gragert—each holding a special place in his heart.
Bob’s legacy is lovingly intertwined with the memories of those who preceded him: his father Dale Brooks and mother Maxine Brooks, as well as his father- and mother-in-law, Russell and Dorothy Miller. He is also remembered fondly with his brothers-in-law, Bob Miller and Paul Miller, whose presence enriched his family life.
In every facet of his life—be it as a veteran, a craftsman, a devoted church member, or a loving family man—Bob Brooks exemplified resilience, humor, and the gentle strength of a kind soul. His life may have reached its peaceful close, but the warmth of his spirit, the laughter he inspired, and the love he nurtured will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Robert “Bob” Dale Brooks will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, family, and friendship will remain an enduring beacon to all who were touched by his presence.
