Robert Bobby E. Gillis, 68, of Danville passed away on March 20, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Robert was born July 2, 1941 in Danville, Illinois son of Robert and Ruth (Livengood) Gillis. He married Sharon Lawhorn on December 12, 1981 at Farmers Chapel Church in Danville. She survives along with four children: Sam (Kim) Pegg of Peru, Indiana, Karen (Thomas) Thompson of Georgetown, Illinois, Peggy (Mark) Ames of Danville, Illinois, and Julie (Iraj) Gharagouzloo of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; brother: Bill (Mary) Gillis of Oakwood, Illinois; grandchildren: Dustin (Katrina) Pegg of Peru, Indiana, Tisha (Donald) Baker of Georgetown, Illinois, Keith Bubba (Whitney) Pratt of Danville, Illinois, Rebecca Pittman of Iowa, Hope (Michael) Murrow Sr., Cassandra (Ryan) Harmon of Kansas, Kirk Pittman of Iowa, Mark (Miranda) Ames, Amanda Ames, Chris Ames, Hollie Ames, Zachary Ames, & Faith Ames all of Danville, Illinois; great-grandchildren: Addison Pegg, Alexander Pegg, Abigail Baker, Madison Baker, Arianna Baker, Treyton Pratt, Michael Murrow Jr., Lily Harmon, Mark Ames, Carl Ames, Anna Ames, Johnny Ames, and Ezeikel Ames; and a very special friend Tom Waddell. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Robbie Gillis, and grandmother Pansy Livengood. Bobby was a 60 graduate of Danville High School and had served in the U.S. Navy for two years until returning home to work for Heatcraft; He retired after 35 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason belonging to the Further Light Masonic Lodge, were he was past master twice. Bobby enjoyed the Illini & Purdue, traveling the U.S., but most of all he loved to spoil the grandchildren & great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Roberts Life will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Curtis Darling officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be preformed by the Further Light Lodge at 6:00 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville with Military Honors.
