Robert 'Bob' Ruch

Robert Lee Ruch, 79, of Westville, passed away at Danville V.A. Palliative Care Thursday, August 9, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bob was born on May 26, 1939, Marion, IN to Gale and Louise (Curless) Ruch. He married Delores Pintar on October 17, 1970 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westville. Bob is survived by his wife Dee; children Krista Ruch, Chicago and Rob (Laura) Ruch, Oakwood; grandsons Noah, Isaiah and Joshua Ruch; sister-in-law Bernetta Rolinitis, Westville; brother-in-law Stan (Kathy) Pintar, Williamsport, IN; sister-in-law Leona Ruch, Sweetser, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was proceeded in death by his parents; brother Richard Ruch, sister Barbara Ruch, and brother-in-law Darrell Rolinitis. Bob graduated from Sweetser H.S. in 1957 and earned athletic scholarship to Purdue University, playing basketball and baseball for two years before joining U.S. Air Force. Following four years serving in Air Force Security Service (Intelligence Operations) in Germany, Turkey and Pakistan, Bob returned to Purdue to complete his Industrial Management degree, working his way through school as a drywall installer and finisher after losing athletic scholarship to injury. Shortly thereafter, Bob moved to Danville, IL to begin 35-year career at Hyster Company, retiring in 2002. Bob was extremely active in the community as a former member of Westville School Board, former Westville Fire Dept. Board Trustee for more than 25 years, past President and member of Westville Lions Club, American Legion Post 51 member, Westville H.S. Academic Foundation Board Member, and longtime Landmark Credit Union Board Member. After retirement, he was also an instructor for eighth-graders as part of Vermilion Advantage Career Lab for 13 years. Bob loved watching all sports, especially the Cubs, but his favorite activity was watching his three grandsons' activities. A celebration of Bob's Life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville on August 18, 2018 at 10 am. Father Timothy Saupp will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Westville. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday August 17, 2018 from 4 - 8 pm. Memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to: VA Illiana H.C. Palliative Care Unit or Westville Legion Honor Guard.
