Robert "Bob" Payne, 92, lifelong resident of Vermilion County Illinois passed away on April 27, 2019

Bob was born on May 30, 1926 to Archie and Jessie (Rutherford) Payne in Ridge Farm, IL. He was raised by Archie and Maxine Payne.

He is survived by a son Steven, his beloved pet Jody, close friends Randy Draper and Jerry Cornell, nieces Donna and Patty who are daughters of his deceased brother Charles, and his cousin Becky Payne with whom he made his home the last years of his lifes journey. Bob suffered with dementia the last three years of his life. He was blessed with a loving caregiver Rachel Mathews and a friend Chris Clark who was Bob's arms and legs when his failed.Granddaughters of his favorite uncle and best friend Isham 'Ike' Payne were PaTricia Tuggle (Aaron Ottarski) and her son Ike, Lenae (Stacy) Luke and their daughter Harper along with Christie Singer as well as her children Sydnee and Maxwell Payne who all enhanced his life by providing meals, transportation, family outings along with their love and care. Bob continued to be social and never lost his sense of humor nor his gift of conversation throughout his battle. He was an Underaged Navy Veteran of WW2 and servered as John F. Kennedys medic while on board the USS Breton, chosen twice to escort Shirley Temple while she entertained at the Naval Hospital of California, served as Vermilion County Clerk for 2 terms, operated used car lots, always at salesman at heart, an accomplished author, award winning songwriter and producer. In 2007 when Bob was 81 The State of Illinois House of Representatives adopted House Resolution No.607 offered by William B. Black honoring Bob for his many lifelong accomplishments.

A Life Celebration and services will be held at a later date. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center will assist with arrangements. Inurnment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Please join Roberts family in sharing memories, photos and videos on his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com .
