Robert "Bob" A. Onley passed away on September 22, 2025, at the age of 56, in Danville, Illinois. Bob was born on March 4, 1969 in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late Glenn and Joyce Onley. He attended Westville High School and graduated with the Class of 1987. A proud veteran, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. On June 5, 1992, Bob married the love of his life, Amy Ellis, and the two would spend the three decades together raising their son and making many cherished memories.
Beginning in 2017, Bob spent several years at Carle Hospital before transitioning to Flex-N-Gate in 2020 as a custodian. In addition to these roles, he held a part-time position as a laundry aide at the Waters of Covington. In this position, he enjoyed forming connections with the residents at the facility. He would often spend his breaks drinking coffee and sharing stories with the residents. He will be sorely missed as a member of their little community.
Bob's passions extended beyond his work; he had a deep love for softball and was an avid collector of sports cards, particularly enamored with the cards bearing the likeness of football legend John Elway. He shared many joyous moments on the bowling lanes, often bringing laughter and camaraderie to the teams he was a part of, including a league he joined with Amy. An animal lover at heart, Bob formed special bonds with his beloved dogs, Teddy and Nova, finding joy and companionship in their presence. His capacity for love and kindness defined not only his interactions with animals but also extended to all who were fortunate to know him.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his nephew Jacob Ellis, both his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his father-in-law Harold D. Ellis.
Bob is survived by his wife Amy Onley; his son Robert Onley; his brothers Richard Onley and Ray (Tracy Sisler) Onley; his mother-in-law Vesla Ellis; his sister-in-law Crystal (Troy) Wadhams; and his brothers-in-law Harold (Sherry Theaman) Ellis and Jonathon (Marla) Ellis. He is also survived by his nieces Elizabeth (Benjamin) Dugan, Paige McConchie, Kirsten (Andy) Culbreath, Katielynn, Emma, and Faith Wadhams; nephews Daniel (Melissa) Ellis, Steven Clouse, Brennan Ellis, and Matthew Ellis; as well as 3 great-nieces Ava, Harper, and Wrenlee Ellis.
Per Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place with a memorial service celebrating his life to be held at a later date. Please join Bob’s family in sharing fond memories, pictures, and videos on his Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
