Danville- Robert Lee Kitchens, Jr., 77, of Danville passed away at 8:40 PM on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the VA Illiana Medical Center in Danville. Bob was born on August 31, 1935 in Paris, TX, the son of Robert Lee Kitchen, and Evilee Ford Ward. He married Carrie Baker who preceded him in death. Surviving are three sons, Tom (Lisa) Kitchens, Jeff (D'Andrea) Kitchens, and Rich (Susy) Kitchens; grandchildren, Rob Kitchens, Mellisa Kitchens, Crystal Laurent, John Kitchens, Matt Kitchens, Dennis Acosta, Aaron Kitchens, George Haney, Briand Kitchens, Jordan Kitchens, Fallyn Kitchens, Izaack Kitchens, Kira Kitchens, and Summer Kitchens; great-grandchildren, Desiree, Destiny, Brandon, Zach, Kyle, Blake, Richard, Jasmine, Jayden, Emerson, Kale, and Dhaijun; and a great-great grandchild, Gavin Kitchens. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Haney. Following High School, Bob served his country in the United States Army. After his service, he worked as an Engineering Manager of a can manufacturing company. His work took him all across the United States and even into Germany. Bob will be remembered as a helpful man who was always willing to lend a hand to someone when they needed it. He especially loved to socialize with his friends and family. Per Bob's wishes, instead of services there will be a gathering of friends and family at Kickapoo State Park starting at 4PM on Friday, July 19, 2013. Cremation rites are being accorded by Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home in Danville. Memorials may be made in his name to the VA Illiana Health Care System Voluntary Services, for Hospice Building 101-4.
