Robert "Bob" A. Iverson, 74, of Danville, IL passed away at 8:07 AM at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL on May 22, 2025.
Bob was born on August 4, 1950 the son of John and Mary Mercedes (Caslin) Iverson in Chicago, IL. He was raised in Glenview, IL. He graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help school and Glenbrook South High School in his youth. He then graduated from Southern Illinois University, where he met his forever love Judy. He married Judith Mehalic on August 12, 1972 in Streator, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Iverson of Danville, IL, his daughters, Amy Iverson of Danville, IL, Anne (Jason) Binette of Danville, IL, one beloved grandson, Keaton Binette of Danville, IL and three siblings, John (Terri) Iverson of Brown Deer, WI, Nancy (Greg) Gordon of Antioch, IL and Laurie Iverson of Evanston, IL.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents.
Bob was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Danville for 30 years. He served as a church elder and on numerous committees and groups. He was instrumental in First Presbyterian being the only church in the state to win the Illinois Sustainability Award. He also has been active in past years in the Kiwanis, Alzheimer’s Alliance, Palmer Arena Board, and other local organizations. He retired from the University of Illinois, was an avid Chicago Cubs and White Sox fan, loved photography, and was a cigar aficionado.
In Bob's own words “I have been witness to the changing face of Danville area for many years. I have been a newspaper reporter, spokesperson for the school district, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent for District 118, Communication Coordinator for the Danville medical center, and Communications Coordinator for the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center at the University of Illinois. I also have enjoyed many years as a news reporter for WITY radio. Besides news and public relations, I have served in public office, having been elected in two Danville wards at different times in 1987 and again in 2019. I currently serve as Ward 7 Alderman and was previously Vice Mayor in the Danville City Council. The area has changed from the industrial base it once was, but the most exciting days are ahead as the people and experiences again change. And the news will change with them."
Bob always looked at his job as a way to help people, whether it is by providing news, helping the public through community relations, or detailing ways people can cut pollution. He always took his job seriously, but not himself. He was always quick to have a joke or funny comment about a situation. He enjoyed staying busy in the community and playing Euchre with his friends.
