Robert "Bob" Michael Huff, 76, of Danville passed away on June 20, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Known as "Mike" growing up, Bob was born on September 5, 1946 in Danville to parents Winifred and Russell Huff. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him was his great-grandson Braun Greufe.
Bob is survived by his wife Rita Huff of Bismarck, IL and his children Julie (Kenneth) Knight of Hammond, LA, Jeremy (Maria) Wolfe of Daytona, FL, Melissa Talbert of Danville, IL, Robert Michael (Kristi Lovell) Huff II of Gardner, KS, Michael Wayne (Erin) Huff of Athens, IL, and Bobbie (Dylan Cosat) Hillery of Tilton, IL. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, dear friends Mark and Nancy Lofland of Overland Park, and his loyal dog Barney.
Bob attended Danville High School graduating with the Class of 1964. Bob spent 52 years living out his childhood dream of being a police officer. He began his law enforcement journey in Tilton, first as a volunteer for the Fire Department and soon after as a reserve for the Police Department before being transferred to full-time. He served for many local Police Departments throughout his career, but most notably, he retired from the Danville Police Department as a Detective after 32 years of service. However, he didnt stay retired for long. Bob then went on to accept his current position of Chief of Police serving the Potomac community. Not one to sit still for long, Bob held numerous side jobs that involved his passions, including R&B License Service which he founded in 1984.
Bob was President of the Central Illinois Mustang Club for many years. He had an extensive collection of cars and enjoyed attending car shows in his spare time. He particularly looked forward to attending the Mecum Auction in Indianapolis, IN. Bob always had a smile on his face and had never met a stranger a day in his life.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 4- 7pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. A funeral service celebrating Bobs life will take place on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 10:00 am, also at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest following the service at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Central Illinois Mustang Club.
