Robert E. "Bob" Shafer, 67, of Westville passed away at 11:25 p.m. Sunday July 22, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on October 17, 1944 in Clinton, IN the son of Alva Allen "Pete" and Margie Reva (Smith) Shafer. He is survived by the love of his life Mary "Terri" Stevens of Westville, and her daughter, Taylor Stevens of Westville; his daughter, Brandy (Brent) Vinson of Oakwood, IL; two sons, Brandon (Michelle) Shafer of Cumming, GA and Luke Shafer of Indianapolis, IN; his sisters, Linda (Eddie) Cox of Catlin and Diane (Gene) Cox of Danville; his four grandchildren, Chelsea, Chase, and Chloe Vinson all of Oakwood and Brittney Shafer of Cumming, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glen "Peanut" Shafer. Bob graduated from Westville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He owned and operated Hillbilly's Meat Shop for 40 years. He sponsored many Little League baseball teams and other things for kids. Bob enjoyed working and visiting with people. He loved having coffee with the guys. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday July 26, 2012 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel. Kevin Cox will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday July 25, 2012 at the funeral home. In lieu of flower memorials may be made in his name to the Veterans House in Indianapolis, IN.
