Robert 'Bob' D. Owens

Danville - Robert "Bob" D. Owens, 91, went home to be with our Lord on December 15, 2023, at the Magnolia Springs Southpointe in Indianapolis, IN. He was born February 28, 1932, in Danville, IL., the son of Roy and Mildred Owens. He graduated from Danville High School in 1952, served in the US Army during the Korean War from October 1952 to September 1954, and married Sara L. Wahlfeldt on September 10, 1955. They had two sons, David, and Rick.

Robert was a faithful member of his churches in Danville, IL and Summerfield, FL, where he and his wife retired and moved for 22 years before returning back to the Midwest. He loved God, his family, and his friends. Robert worked for Davies Packing Company and then Illinois Power, where he retired in 1990 after 25 years.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Sara, twin brother Richard (Dick), parents, one son, David and one great-grandson Maddox Owens.

Robert is survived by his son, Rick and daughter-in-law Sheila of Indianapolis, IN with grandchildren Lynn (Marcelino) Hernandez of Brownsburg, IN, and Christopher Owens of Bryan, TX. Grandchildren with deceased son David, Jim (Elizabeth) Owens of Raleigh, NC, Angela (Jeremy) Mancini of Chandler, AZ, Matthew (Christin) Owens of Burlington, NC, and 8 great-grandchildren MaKayla, Caleb, Daniel, Hannah, Gabriella, Parker, Maxwell, and Aiden. Additionally, he is survived by 4 nieces and 1 nephew Keri Owens and her son, Brad, and Cindy Owens of Belleview, FL, Wynnie Jo (Mike) Lemmert of Aurora, CO, Steve (Mimi) Wahlfeldt, of Fort Collins, CO, and Virginia (Chris) Niles of Parker, CO.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834, followed by a burial at the Lutheran Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service, also at Sunset in Danville.

Memorial donations may be made in Roberts name to the Tunnels to Tower Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
