Danville Robert "Bob" Dickelman, 86, of Danville passed into his heavenly reward on March 27, 2024. Bob was born January 16, 1938 along with his sisters Rita and Roberta, the Dickelman triplets, to Elmer and Leota (Mansfield) Dickelman in Danville, IL.
Bob grew up in Danville and attended Danville Schools. During High School he enlisted in the United States Navy, served during the Korean Conflict and spent 17 years in and out. He was called back from 1968-1970 during the Vietnam War.
Bob married Theresa OBannon on September 4, 1970. She survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Kathleen OBannon, Brenda (David) Edwards, Annette Pitlik, Angela (Dean) Carlton, Elaine (Kevin) Gecowets; 15 grandchildren, Sharlie OBannon, David Robert Edwards, Timothy Jo Edwards, Brandi M. (Nathan) Binkley, Aaron Pitlik, Dustin Pitlik, Ryan Dean Carlton, Kelli Ann Carlton, Theodore Edward (Grace) Gecowets, Laurissa (Christopher) Wall, Christiana Grace Lackley, Annaliese (James) Wilson, Christopher B. Gecowets, John A. Gecowets, Eliana (Gienni) Goetomo; 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Joan Cole, brother John Richard "Dick" and Dicks wife Helen, along with Roberts first wife, Joleen.
Bob worked for Hyster/NACCO for 33 years where he was called "Dickelbob" by many. Upon retirement from Hyster he worked as a Bailiff in the Vermilion County Court House for 15 years. He was an auxiliary policeman for 10 years, from 1970-1980, both positions under the Sheriffs Department. Bob and Theresa worked at St. James Food Pantry for 11 years until the Pandemic.
Bob belonged to the VFW Post 728 for many years. He was a lifetime member and was a Sr. Vice and Commander at Post 3510 for two years. He was also a member of the American legion Post 210 for many years where he served in the Honor Guard.
Visitation for Robert "Bob" Dickelman will be Monday, April 1, 2024 from 4-7 PM Central at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Funeral will be held at 12:30 PM Central on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, also at Sunset in Danville. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery where American Legion Post 210 will accord military rites. Memorials in his name may be made to the American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard or St. James United Methodist Church.
