Robert S. Bob Black Jr. 83, of Danville, passed this Life at 9:15am on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born in Canton, Ohio on August 14, 1926, the son of Robert S. Black Sr. and Gladys S. (McGuire) Black. On May 9, 1948, Bob married Miss Ruth Haxton in Mellot, IN. Bob is survived by his wife Ruth, of 61 years, their four children, James (Tia) Black of Danville, Dennis (Laura) Black of Covington, IN, Karl (Jeanine) Black of St. Joseph, IL, and Joetta (Denny) Lee of Owensboro, KY. His eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Margaret Pepping of Danville, and Jean (Garland) Fisher of Veedersburg, IN, also survive him. His parents, two daughters, Dorothy, and Nancy, one son, Lowell, and his brother, George, precede Bob in death. Bob graduated from Veedersburg Senior High and joined the United States Marine Corp on September 15, 1943 thru April 25, 1945. After the service, Bob become self-employed and started, Bobs Mower Shop. After retiring from his mower shop business, Bob went back into the work force at the North Danville Big R Store, working in the Motor Shop and the Sporting Department. Bob enjoyed the outdoors where he worked at the Daniel Boone Forest Preserve for five summers and was a scout leader for troop #90. Bob was a lifelong member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville and held a membership as both Mason and Shiner. He enjoyed hunting, camping, watching baseball games, being an avid Purdue fan, and traveling with his wife Ruth after his retirement. A Celebration of Bob Blacks Life will begin at 1:00pm on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with internment, and full military honors to follow at Osborne Prairie Cemetery in Veedersburg, IN.
