Rita M. (Lane) Kerr, 74, of Danville, passed away at 9:59 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Rita was born on April 17, 1935 in Danville, the daughter of Elton N. and Audrey L. (Smith) Lane. She married Earl L. Kerr Jr. on July 20, 1958, at the Henning Church of Christ. He survives. She is also survived by her two sons- Dannie J. (Kathy) Kerr of Mesa, Arizona and Jeffrey S. Kerr of Arlington, Virginia; one granddaughter- Tamra J. Kerr of Mesa, Arizona; and one special friend- Peggy Sauer of St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son- Tony L. Kerr, four brothers- Lyle Lane, Melvin Lane, Paul Lane and Eldon Lane, and five sisters- Sharon Meeker, Janet Turk, Marianne Dudley, Glenda Clem and Mary Lou Lane. Rita graduated from Henning High School. She worked as a secretary and receptionist at Interstate Printing and Publishing, medical secretary for Dr. Crispins office in Danville; executive secretary at Ryder Scott Oil Company in Texas; executive secretary for New Departure, a division of General Motors in Moline, Illinois; and retired from Metropolitan Liability and Property Insurance in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church and the Danville Boat Club. She enjoyed cooking, going to bazaars and keeping a nice home. She loved spending time with her family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 at St. Pauls Catholic Church, with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park following the service. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday September 24, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with a prayer service being held at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Provena Cancer Center 806 North Logan Avenue, Danville, Illinois 61832 (217) 431-4290.
