Rita Jean Johnson, 76, of Oakwood, passed away at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Rita was born on July 3, 1930 in Danville, the daughter of Jerry and Sophie (Waclaw) Hamilton. She married James William Johnson on September 25, 1949 in Danville. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1982. She is survived by her one son- James William (Pam) Johnson of Walker, Louisiana; three daughters- Kathy (Kenny) Divan of Oakwood, Nancy (Dave) Meade of Danville, and Shirley (Don) Mathews of Muncie, Illinois; one brother- Bill (Nancy) Hamilton of Danville; one sister- Jenny (Tom) Neal of Danville; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter- Kimberly Divan, and two sisters. Rita graduated from Westville High School in 1948. She spent most of her life as a homemaker. She previously worked in Oakwood as a waitress at different restaurants. She was a member of Newtown Hebron Methodist Church. Rita loved playing bingo. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and flowers. She also enjoyed fishing. Rita was a member of the O club in Oakwood. A celebration of life service for Rita Jean Johnson will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel, with Rev. Alan Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Songer Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
