Rita Hafner

Rita Hafner, 75, of Danville passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Presence Covenant Hospital in Urbana. Rita was born on October 29, 1941 in Vermilion county, McKendree township, the daughter of Stanford and Catherine (Reffett) Piatt. She married the love of her life, Jack Hafner on September 5th, 1959. He survives. Rita leaves behind two children, Lonnie (Maryann) Hafner of Saline, MI., and Trisha (Chris) Burton of Mansfield, IL, two grandchildren, Daylan (David) Navarro of Catlin and Devin Burton of Mansfield, one great grandson, Zander Navarro, and one great granddaughter on the way, two brothers, Stanley (Linda) Piatt of West Lebanon, IN and Robert (Susie) Piatt of Danville, one sister, Connie Pierson of Miami FL. and one step sister, Sally (Bob) Miller of Danville. Rita was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Winifred "Winnie" Hess. Rita worked at a variety of jobs. TeePak, Better Business Bureau, Antique Dealer, Teachers Aid, Real Estate Agent and owner of The Cinderella Dress Shop were just a few of the careers she held. However the job she cherished most was raising her children. Rita also enjoyed being in the garden, going to yard sales and spending time with her family as they played music for others. She enjoyed her dogs, Diamond and Zazzie and going to Florida and walking the beach with her feet in the ocean. Most of all it was the time she spent as a mom, grandma, great grandma and wife she enjoyed the most. Spending time with Zander, her great grandson, was a treasure as well. A Celebration of life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, at 1pm on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 4 - 8pm. Per Rita's wishes, cremation rights will be recorded after the service on Saturday.
