Rick Abernathy

Rick Abernathy, 64, of Covington, passed this life at 3:45pm, Friday, April 1, 2022, at Franciscan Health in Lafayette, Indiana, surrounded by family. Rick was born November 21, 1957, in Danville, IL, to Kenneth Richard Abernathy and Patricia O. Drollinger Abernathy. He was preceded in death by his parents. Besides his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth Samuel Abernathy, Lucille B. Abernathy; one brother, Scott Abernathy; one nephew, Bruce Abernathy; and one niece, Shannon Abernathy-Arrue. Rick has four children, Shawn (Amber Schultz) Abernathy, Tiffany (Travis) Cates, Lyndsey (Alvin) Nelson, and Ava Abernathy, all of Covington. He also has two stepdaughters and one stepson. He is the grandfather of Cassidy (Hayden) Helms, Rayne Abernathy, Tanner Cates, Kirsten Abernathy, Madison Nelson, Tyleigh Cates, Taryn Cates, and Makynli Nelson. He has five step grandchildren as well. He is great grandfather of Hudson Helms. Rick was married to Missy Woolwine on December 26, 2019. They have enjoyed spending the last couple of years together. They have taken several trips together during this time. She wishes they had more time together. Besides his children and grandchildren, Rick is survived by his siblings, Susan Abernathy, Stanley (Tonya) Abernathy, Jeff Abernathy, Kenny (Mariann) Abernathy, Michelle (Matt) Bowers, and several nieces and nephews. He has had several jobs over the years, but most recently he enjoyed mowing lawns around the neighborhood. He also loved to watch westerns and drink coffee as well as keep up with Colts football and IU basketball through the years. A celebration of Ricks life will be 1:00pm to 5:00pm (est) on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Rivercrest Golf Course, 14 Clubhouse Dr, Covington, IN 47932.
