Richard "Dick" R. Varner, 76, of Danville, passed away at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, August 28th, 2011 at Hoopeston Community Nursing Home. Dick was born on October 22nd, 1934, in Rankin, Illinois, the son of William H. and Ethel M. (Groves) Varner. He is survived by two sons- Daniel M. (Debbie) Varner of Mesa, Arizona and Kim (Cash) Snooks of Florida; one daughter- Gay Lynn (Jim) Padish of Scottsdale, Arizona; two brothers- Howard Varner of Danville and Alvin (Mary Lou) Varner of Monticello, Indiana; one sister- Mary Saikley of Ft. Myers, Florida; seven grandchildren-Justin Varner, Geoffry Varner, Jeremy Varner, Erica Padish, Megan Padish, Joey Padish and Mackenzie Padish; several nieces and nephews; and his long time partner- Vi Blake and all of her family who he treated as his own children. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. Dick served in the Naval Reserve from 1951 to 1959. He worked at Danville Gas and Oil for 15 years and later owned his own auto detail shop for 32 years. Richard was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #210. He enjoyed working on cars, going to auctions, decorating his yard for the holidays and doing yard work. A Celebration of the life of Richard "Dick" R. Varner will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
