WESTVILLE - Richard J. Zimmerman, 64, of Westville, passed away at 9:55am on March 19th, 2005, at Provena USMC Logan Campus in Danville. He was born on November 6, 1940, in Danville, to Floyd and Faye (Edwards) Zimmerman. He was united in marriage to Beverly Smiley on April 16th, 1962 in Danville. She preceded him in death in 1999. Surviving family members include: his six children, Lisa (Chris) Gondzur, Brian Zimmerman, Skip (Lori) Pratt, Bekki (David) Troutman, all of Westville, Brenda Camarata of Danville, and Dorene (Frank) Gabehart also of Westville; his three brothers, John (Margo) Zimmerman of Bismarck, Earl (Betty) Zimmerman, and Raymond L. (Norma) Zimmerman, both of Tilton; his two sisters, Edith Vibbert of Evansville, IN, and Mary (Kenny) Kist of Oakwood; his fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one good friend, Sally Gooch of Oakwood. His parents, his three brothers, William Eugene, Floyd, & Donald, preceded Richard in death. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Richard was employed at the General Motors Tilton Foundry for thirty years before retiring. He also owned and worked at a television repair shop. Richard was a member of the South Side Church of the Nazarene in Tilton, and held a membership with the National Rifle Association (NRA). His hobby included golfing, fishing, watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, and also sitting on his front porch to watch humming birds. Richard was also a well-known gospel singer in the Tilton area. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 1:00pm on March 23rd, 2005, at the South Side Church of the Nazarene located at 1629 King St. in Tilton. Visitation is between the hours of 4-8pm on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 also at the church. Burial will be held at the Danville National Cemetery will military rites being conducted at the graveside. Officiating will be Pastor Jay Sorell. Sunset South's Westville Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations may be made to the American Lung Association and/or the South Side Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.
