Richard Woodard

Richard L. (Dick) Woodard left this world peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, as a result of multiple organ failure. He was born on January 13, 1931 to James W. and Bertha G. (Farnum) Woodard in Catlin IL. They preceded him in death. He married Sadie (Watson) Woodard on November 13, 1952 in Spokane, Washington and settled in Armstrong in 1960. They moved to Danville "to retire" in 1997. Sadie passed away in 2015. Dick had one brother, Bill (Juanita) Woodard. Both Bill and Juanita preceded him in death. He also had one son, Tom Woodard, who preceded him in death in 2000.

Those who survive are his daughter, SueAnne (Nathan) Meister-Luppino of Rantoul; one sister Pat (Steve) Bianchetta of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Adrion (Tiffany) Little of North Carolina, Pamela (Richard) Rhoades of Penfield, and Jason (Bobbie Sue) Meister of Houston Texas; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Little of North Carolina, Alexis and Kolten Rhoades of Penfield, Jason Meister Jr. in Houston and great-granddaughter Geneva Meister who is due later this month. Dick also has two step-grandchildren, Christopher Luppino in Louisiana and Stephanie (Zack) Baxter in North Carolina, as well as several nieces and nephews.

As a Flight Line Mechanic in the Air Force, Dick joined Chanute Field in 1956 as both a reciprocating and jet engine mechanic. He later was promoted to Supervisor of the Jet Engine Shop and was in that position when he retired from Chanute FIeld in 1986. Dick and his son Tom farmed in the area for 10 years following his retirement. In between work, family and farming, Dick enjoyed fishing with family and friends as well as mushroom hunting. Dick was also a master mechanic who could fix anything from farm implements to lawn mowers and just about anything in between. Over the years Dick has had many great friends but none better than Joe Jett of Danville. Our family cant begin to thank you enough Joe for everything youve done for Dick over the past five years, so please know you have been a godsend.
