Richard Eugene "Rick" Wasson, Sr

Richard Eugene "Rick" Wasson Sr., 60, of Danville, IL, passed away on June 5, 2026 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Richard was born on March 23, 1966 in Danville, IL the son of Conn Curtis and Ruby Juanita (Ray) Wasson.

Richard was known throughout his life as Rick, Ricky Rick, and Buddy. "Buddy" became a special nickname shared between Rick and his son Joshua, a tradition they carried for many years. Rick was known for his sense of humor, strong will, and the lasting friendships he built throughout his life.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Conn and Ruby Wasson; his brother, Tom Kirts; sisters-in-law, Sandra Wasson and Pam Kirts; and brother-in-law, Albert Hickman.

Rick is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joy Wasson; his children, April Walblay of Catlin, William (Jenisa) Schlunaker of Georgetown, Anthony Stingley of Danville, Richard Wasson Jr. of Danville, Kayla Pollard of Danville, Robert Wasson (McKenzie Sheahan) of Danville, and Joshua (Kelsey) Wasson of Danville.

He is also survived by his siblings, Rose Roosevelt of Florida, Jim Kirts of Texas, George "Skip" Kirts of Florida, Phillip Wasson (Debbie Curry) of Danville, Curtis Wasson of Danville, Ronald (Michelle) Wasson of Tennessee, Phyllis "Sissy" Hickman of Danville, and Troy Douglas of Arizona, and also leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

For 35 years, Rick was a dedicated employee of Lincoln Lanes in Danville. During that time, he formed many friendships and became a familiar face to generations of bowlers. His boss, Paul, was also one of his closest friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Paul and his family for their friendship, support, and kindness to Rick throughout the years.

Rick enjoyed camping, woodworking, gardening, watching YouTube videos, and cooking on his grills. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and he especially enjoyed spending time outdoors. His dog, Tex, held a special place in his life.

Those who knew Rick knew he was always good for a laugh. He had a sharp sense of humor, a strong personality, and a stubborn streak that few could match. Whether telling jokes, sharing stories, or standing his ground, Rick left a lasting impression on the people around him.

Rick will be remembered for his laughter, determination, and the memories he shared with family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
