Richard W. Decker Sr. 80 of Danville passed away at 11:24am on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his residence. He was born on March 25, 1931, in Danville, the son of Charles M. and Mabel F. (Hopkins) Decker. Both are deceased. On June 22, 1951, Richard married Rose E. Vance. She preceded him in death on September 30 2011. Surviving are 3 sons; David (Laura) Decker of Danville, Richard W. Decker Jr. (Randy Zoller) of Florida, Dwayne Louie' Decker of Kentucky, and two daughters'; Ruth (Dennis Sr.) Young of Danville, and Tamela (Scott) Tomlinson, also of Danville. His ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his sister; Carol Hall of Champaign-Urbana, also survive him. In addition to his parents, and his wife Rose, one daughter, one great-great granddaughter, two brothers; Art and Ernie Decker, and his two sisters; Charlene, and Betty preceded Richard in death. Richard was a Navy veteran which served his country during the Korean War aboard ship. After the service, he returned home, and worked as a cemetery sexton for both, Gordon and Athens cemeteries for over 20 years. His primary job was in the Engineering Department at the Danville VA Illiana Health Care Systems, as well as Woodley's flowers for a short time. He always seemed his happiest when he was working, and always enjoyed the company of his children, and grandchildren with their help of cutting lawns. He enjoyed go to the Danville High School Football and Basketball games, rooting for the Vikings, as well as the Illini, and Cubs. Richard enjoyed watching Westerns, and loved to attend his grandson's sporting events. He will truly be missed by all that knew him. A Celebration of Life Service for Richard W. Decker Sr. has been scheduled for 10:00am on Monday, October 31, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street, in Danville, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be performed by the Danville American Legion Post 210. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2-6pm on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the Decker family has asked that all donations be made in Richards name to the No Kill Shelter for homeless dogs and cats.
