Richard Spain

Danville - Richard Spain, 80, of Danville passed away at 6:50 PM on Friday, September 25, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on April 20, 1935 in Butler Township to Mose Spain and Gertrude Poulson. He married Janet Kay Scott on June 30, 1956 in Rossville, IL. She preceded him in death on December 27, 1975. He is survived by a daughter, Terresa (Curtis) Gooch of Danville; a sister, Margaret Bird of Danville; three granddaughters, Amber (Travis) Hubbard of Indianola, Stacy (Robert) Ramos of Saybrook, IL, and Breanne (Brandon) Swartzlander of Salem, IL; seven great-grandchildren, Skyler and Dominic Austin, Noah Ramos, Hannah and Kyle Hubbard, and Sydnee and Brooklyn Garrett; and a niece Helen Ruth. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Esther Bernice Underwood and Helen Louise Charles, and a brother, French Spain. Richard first served his country in the United States Army before going on to work at Quaker Oats until his retirement in 1995. He had attended Southside Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed fishing, gardening, birdwatching, and walks in the park. Most of all, Richard was a great father and grandfather, and loved to spend time with his family. A service to celebrate the life of Richard Spain will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Kent Pitcher will officiate. Burial will follow at Mann's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service on Tuesday, also at Sunset.
