Richard 'Rick' Wayne Dailey Sr.

Richard "Rick" Wayne Dailey, Sr., 71, of Georgetown peacefully left this life surrounded by family on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the VA Palliative Care Center, Danville. Rick was born on Veteran's Day November 11, 1945, to Nellie Cullen Dailey. Rick grew up with several brothers and sisters in Ridge Farm, IL. At age 18, he met the love of his life, Alice Louise {Luther} Dailey whom he married on November 27, 1963. They spent nearly 54 years together, she will miss him dearly. In 1968, Rick was drafted into the US Army. After completing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, he was stationed in Ft. Benning, GA, and Ft. Dix, New Jersey, before being deployed to Vietnam in March 1969. He returned to the US in 1970 being honorably discharged as a specialist from Ft. Lewis, Washington. From 1973-2005, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was also the owner of North Forty Supply. Inside North Forty Supply you could find hand-built hunting lights and other hunting supplies and maybe a grandkid or two (not for sale). Rick and Alice raised three beautiful children together: Richard "Rick" Wayne Dailey, Jr. (Janet), Frank Edward Dailey (Angela), and Kelly Ann Conrad (Tony). Rick once said, "And I thought we'd only have three kids and keep the family small." But then came grandchildren: Jennifer Robin Smith (Kyle), Richard "Ricky" Wayne Dailey III (Leather), Kristin Marie Dailey (Heidi), Private 1st Class James Wesley Dailey (US Army National Guard), LeeAnn Rae Conrad, Colton "Cole" Ross Dailey, Waylon Lee Conrad, Sarah Ann Dailey, & Steven "Stevie" Ray Dailey. Then later joined in four more granddaughters: Layni Elexas Razmus, AM2 (AW) Darcey Alyc Razmus (US Navy-currently deployed), Haylee Alexsandra Razmus, and Victoria Elizabeth Razmus. In 2008, Rick's first great-granddaughter, Addison RaeAnn Dailey, was born and left for Heaven where they were happily reunited at his passing. A few years later came, Ashtyn AnnMarie Dailey, Jaxon Daniel Maddox Dailey, Lennox Cole Smith, Lane Dailey Smith, & Richard Wayne Dailey IV. Rick was known as "Grandpa Grandpa" or "Papa Dude" to the great grands. He will be missed by them all, as well as his brother, William (Francis) Dailey and his sister, Barb Nichols Hull. Anyone that knew Rick knew his prized possession was his family. You could count on seeing him front and center at all the grandchildren's sporting events with a bag of popcorn and water bottle in hand. He was hands-down their biggest fan. At family events, he was the biggest source of entertainment, nick-naming everyone, and joking about his love for eating awful salad, regular ice cream, and cranberry sauce. Rick was the Senior Ride Captain for Region 4 of the Illinois Patriot Guard organization, participating in countless missions to pay his respect to Veteran's and fallen soldiers. Rick was undoubtedly a patriotic motorcycle rider shown by the large flags always following. His PGR brothers and sisters loved and respected him dearly. Rick also served as the Post Commander as well as All State Commander for the VFW Post 3510 and member of the American Legion Post 210. He was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Rick has instilled his strong values in his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. It is without question that his legacy will live on through them and those lives he has touched. Before his passing, Rick asked that this quote be shared with everyone "Remember me as I was. Remember all of the fun, good times we had together and remember all of the great accomplishments we made. I love you and I will meet you all again." The family would like to give a special "thank you" to Dr. Elliott and all his staff at the VA Palliative Care Center, especially Rick's niece, Brenda Gash and Gail for the excellent care and respect that was given to him and the entire family during his stay. A celebration of Rick's life will be held at 10:30am, Friday, October 6, 2017, Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown, with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00pm, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Danville National Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Dornblaser Post #203. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Wreaths Across America.
