Richard Rick Lee Cole, 78, of Westville, passed away at 6:50am, Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on November 14th, 1930, in Danville, IL, the son of Ernest and Ruth (Elkins) Cole. He was wed to Wilma Carolyn Moretto on August 8, 1959, at St. Peter & Pauls in Westville. She will miss him dearly. Others who will miss him include: his children, Jim Cole of Danville & Denise Garretson of Westville; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Kirk) Edwards of Westville, Derek Weaver of Georgetown, Aaron (Amanda) Holt of Las Vegas, NV, & Shayne Cole of Las Vegas, NV; his great grandchildren, Rylee Edwards, Maddisson Edwards, & London Edwards, all of Westville. He was preceded in death by: his parents, one brother, John Cole, and one sister, Gladys Hamilton. Rick had joined the US Army and later signed with the US Air Force. He served in the Korean War. He worked in law enforcement for Newport Ammunitions Plant and also as a Deputy Sheriff and later worked for the Westville Police Department. He was a member of St. Marys Church and served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as, the NARFE and AFGE. Rick enjoyed going fishing and bowling and he was also an avid NASCAR fan. He coached and umpired little league baseball and loved to attend his grandchildrens sports activities. A celebration of Ricks life will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, November 19th, 2008, at St. Marys Church, 231 N State St, Westville. Fr. Ted Sauppe` will officiate. Visitation will be 4pm to 8pm, Tuesday, November 18th, 2008, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, with a Rosary at 4:00pm. He will be laid to rest in St. Peter & Pauls Cemetery with Military rites conducted by the Westville American Legion Post #51. Memorial donations may be given in Ricks name to St. Marys Church or St. Marys School.
