Richard R Smoot

Danville - Richard R. Smoot, 78, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2015 at Garden View Manor in Danville. Richard was born the son of Halbert and Thelma Smoot on August 17, 1936 in Tilton, Illinois. On December 2, 1966 Richard married Shirley and raised a wonderful family together. Richard is survived by his wife Shirley Smoot of Danville; his children John C. (Terri) Smoot of Tilton, Debra L. (David) Miller of Danville, John F. (Brenda) Szilagyi of Greenville, MO, and daughter-in-law Debra Smoot of Westville; his grandchildren Richard Kyle Smoot, Kenneth Smoot, Trisha (Adam) Kendra, Brandon (Stephanie) Szilagyi, Melissa (Tom) Lavigne, Catherine (Eric) Zimmer, and Lindsey (Junior) Card; his great-grandchildren Rayna and Richard L Smoot, Gage and Stella Zimmer, Landyn and Livia Card, Caylen, Chance, and Rhyleigh Szilagyi. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Halbert and Thelma, his son Richard Craig Smoot, granddaughter April Dawn Smoot, and brothers Jack Smoot and Dean Smoot. After high school Richard worked at the Danville Metal Stamping Machine, Tridan and Dines as a tool and die maker. Richard was a great outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and go mushroom hunting. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday January 15, 2015 at 1 p.m., at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a life celebration home in Danville. Pastor Drew Metzner will officiate; burial will follow at Songers Cemetery. A visitation will be held on the same day from 11 am to the time of service also at Sunset Funeral Home.
