Richard Allen Pierce, 81, of Catlin, IL, passed this life on March 15, 2022, at Hawthorne Inn, Danville, IL, with his wife by his side. Days prior to his passing, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends talking about fond memories. Richard was born on May 27, 1940, in Fairmount, IL, to the late Hershel and Catherine {Baker} Pierce. Later he married Darleen Joy" Stark on August 11, 1961, and together they had three daughters who survive: Penny (Tim) Martin of Tilton, IL, Pam (Perry) Warner of Catlin, IL, & Patti (Clarence) Greer of Suffolk, VA. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan Martin; his sister, Shirley Sherwood; his brother-in-law, Russell Kunkle; and his sister-in-law, Judy Stark. Richard leaves behind one sister, Janet (Jerry) Longest; five granddaughters; two grandsons; six great granddaughters; six great grandsons; one great-great granddaughter; and two great-great grandsons. Richard graduated from Ridge Farm High School and was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ. He loved his family and enjoyed many gatherings. While growing up, his farms were his playground and it taught him many skills and a good work ethic. He worked at Hyster Company for 14 years. Richard was a truck driver for Burk Lund, Sunbeam, and waste management companies. Later in life, he mowed and did other yard work for many people. His greatest passion in life was being outdoors and working all the time. His hobbies including fishing, hunting, boating, building, refinishing, gardening, and much more. He took great pride in his flower gardens at home and later at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care shown to Richard by the staff at Hawthorne Inn. A celebration of Richards life will be held at 12:00pm (noon), Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846 with Chris Lawler officiating. Visitation will be held 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Oakridge Cemetery, Catlin. Memorial donations may be given in his name to donors choice of charity.
