Richard W. Mouse Moss, 82, of Tilton, passed away August 4, 2009 at the V.A. in Danville. He was born June 3, 1927 in Danville to Don and Myrtle (Barrett) Moss. He married Jewell Haworth on November 12, 1948 in Danville. She survives of Tilton. Others survivors include their son, Doug L. Moss, sister Donna (Gene) Messenger, and several nieces and nephews. His two sons, Steve and Jeff, his parents and a brother, Bernard, preceded him in death. As a teenager, Mouse hung out at the Standard Oil Station in South Danville where he found his first love of cars and motorcycles. He attended Danville schools with enough credits to leave High School and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served as a Seaman 1st Class while in Japan. He was honorably discharged on July 8, 1946. Mouse worked at R & S Printing Co. for 20 years, where he met his true love, Jewell, and later worked for Interstate Printing as a Book Binder. He was a life member of the Graphic Communications Union, and retired in May 2002 from the Danville School District #118. Richard was on staff with the Boy Scout Troop #5 with Okie Boyd, sponsored by Central Park United Methodist Church. He had many great outings with his sons, Steve and Doug. He loved to go on hikes with his sons and take the boat down the river. He also loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was well thought of by all who knew him. Mouse was an avid Illini fan and could tell you the names of all the players. He and Jewell loved to square dance in the 70s with the Frontier Twirlers and the Promenades. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge 1001 and the Danville Elks Club. Richard Mouse was baptized in the North Fork River at Seaton Hill and was a member of Columbia Church of Christ. He later attended East Park Church of Christ and Central Park Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 8, 2009 with burial to take place at Sunset Memorial Park with full military honors conducted by the Danville American Legion Post #210.
