Richard Mihm

Richard “Rich” Mihm, 66, of Champaign, IL peacefully passed away at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL on August 16, 2024.

Richard was born in Danville, IL on March 13, 1958, the son of Robert and Marilyn (Young) Mihm. He married Pamela Morgan on August 27, 1983, in Rossville, IL and she survives.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Mihm of Champaign, IL, two sons, John (Alexandra) Mihm of Lewisville, NC, and James (Sara) Mihm of Chicago, IL, two grandchildren, Addison and Audrey Mihm, his mother, Marilyn Mihm of Danville, IL, as well as one brother, Andrew (Susan) Mihm of Champaign, IL. More widely he is survived by many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, Robert Mihm, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

It is the impact Rich has made as a son, husband, father, brother, friend and Grandpa “Bapa” that made him special. He left an everlasting impression on how he faced a devastating illness with bravery, grace and strength.

Rich graduated from the University of Illinois in 1981 with his Bachelors in Accountancy and earned his CPA designation. He spent the first half of his career in public accounting and then worked 19 years as the Accounting Manager of the Coordinated Sciences Lab at the University of Illinois.

Rich was an enthusiastic Illini fan and has been a basketball and football season ticket holder for 40 years. Rich loved Disney World and went there too many times to count as it was his happiest place on earth. This paled in comparison to his joy of being a “Bapa” to Addison and Audrey. Rich enjoyed keeping the scorebook for Centennial Boys Basketball for about 20 years. He also enjoyed meeting once a month with the Pete Rose Fan Club (poker club). Rich had fun playing pickleball and scuba diving.

Richard is a member of CU Church, Champaign West Rotary and the U of I Alumni Association.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at St James United Methodist Church, 504 North Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois. Immediately following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at the church, officiated by Pastor Jason Epperson. The burial will be in Mann’s Chapel Cemetery in Rossville, IL.

The family kindly requests that those attending services wear colorful clothing in honor of a life well lived.
