Richard L. Smiley

Cayuga, Ind. -- Richard L. Smiley, 79, of Cayuga, Indiana, passed away at 11:55 p.m. EDT Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton, Indiana. He was born February 10, 1931 in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late Frank R. and Leah Marsh Smiley. He married Alberta June McCarty on April 6, 1962 in Danville, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include: one sister, Karen Sue White of Westville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Chastain. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the United States Navy. He was currently attending the Southside Church Of The Nazarene in Tilton, Illinois. Richard retired after 33 years from the maintenance department at General Electric in 1992. He enjoyed camping and working on H/O scale model trains. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday, June 8,2010 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jimmy Dowers; Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Monday, June 7, 2010 at the funeral home.
