MAHOMET- Richard C. Johnson of Mahomet and formerly of Rockford and Belvidere passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 in his home after a long illness. He was born in Rockford, Illinois on August 13, 1930, the son of Carl J. and Helen Ericksen Johnson. He married Margery Haffenden on August 25, 1951 in Belvidere, Illinois. He was inducted into the army shortly afterward and was a Korean War Veteran. He farmed in Belvidere for 16 years and then worked at several farm implement dealerships in the area until he retired. He enjoyed woodworking and built many pieces of beautiful oak furniture for his own home as well as for his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Belvidere for over 50 years and served two terms on the church council. He also was a Boone County Farm Bureau member for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife; son, Richard (Peg) Johnson; daughter, Karen (Wayne) Badger; grandson, Nathan (Danielle) Johnson; and granddaughters, Emily and Eleanore (Nora) Johnson; grandsons, Stephen, Mark and Eric Badger; granddaughter, Katherine Badger; great-grandsons, Alexander Richard and Owen Talmage Johnson; and sisters, Ann Hardy and B. June Johnson. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Marilyn (John) Lohnstein; and infant granddaughter, Hannah Beth Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of Mahomet on Friday, March 27, at 11:00 am with a visitation an hour before the service. A luncheon will be served afterward in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Memorials may be made to the Carle Hospice Foundation or the Lutheran Church of Mahomet.
