Richard H. Wrensch

Danville - Richard H. Wrensch, 75, of Danville passed away at 8:55 pm on August 17, 2017 at North Logan Health Care in Danville, IL. Richard was born on July 28, 1942 the son of Ernest R. and Rose L. (Radtke) Wrensch in Portage, WI. He married Melanie Long on May 21, 1983 in Danville, IL. Survivors include his wife, Melanie Wrensch of Danville, three sons, Raymond (Jennifer) Wrensch Alexandria, VA, Zachary (Bethany) Wrensch of Hebron, KY, and Song (Yoevita) Wrensch of San Jose, CA, two daughters, Elizabeth Wrensch of Woodbridge, VA, and Tresa Wrensch of Alameda, CA, one sister, Mildred (Eugene) Borchardt of Edgar, WI, as well as his four grandchildren, Isaac Garcia, Genevieve Wrensch, Abby Wrensch and Oliver Wrensch. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Louis Wrensch and one sister, Rosemary Bloesing. Richard proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting in August 1959 and retiring in February 1984. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving three tours in country. Other assignments included the 7th Infantry Division in Korea, drill instructor at Fort Bliss, 1st Sergeant at the Defense Language Institute and 1st Infantry Division (Forward) at Goppingen, Germany. He also often reminisced about being in Berlin when the wall went up. Because of his acts of bravery in Vietnam he was awarded two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars with Valor. After retiring from the Army, Richard worked at the Illiana VA Medical Center for over 20 years, retiring as an Environmental Management Foreman. He was also a member of 2nd Church of Christ in Danville, IL, American Legion Post 210, Military Order of the Purple Heart Association, and the Kickapoo Woodcarvers Club. Richard was proud of his German heritage, having grown up as the grandson of immigrants in Wisconsin. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, hunting, watching the Green Bay Packers, and wood carving. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Alex Dayvolt will officiate. Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the funeral home.
