Richard 'Dick' Zumwalt

Richard Dick Zumwalt, 76, of Newport, IN, passed away at 9:18pm, Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born on September 10, 1946, in Danville, IL, the son of Wilbur Dewey and Doris Tiny {Graham} Zumwalt. He was united in marriage to Martha Marty Harrison on May 24, 1969, until her passing on March 11, 2021. Dick is survived by his children, Deana Norris, Raymond Troy (Cindy) Zumwalt, and Kory (Staci) Zumwalt; his grandchildren, Sherri (Ryan Good) Gibson, Kylah Norris, Jayde Norris, Kody (Makenzie) Zumwalt, and Trent (Kamille) Zumwalt; his great grandchildren, Callie Gibson, Colton Gibson, Tucker Gibson, and Jaxon Zumwalt; his close cousin, Stephen (Dorothy) Danko; his sister, Debbie Berlin; his brother, Jeff (Tasha) Zumwalt; his in-laws, RuthAnn Bush, Dorothy Johnson, George Harrison, Dale Shag Harrison, and Suzanne Zumwalt; his several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Phyllis Orman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dewey Graham Zumwalt; his nephew, Scott Zumwalt; and his niece, Jodi Zumwalt. Dick was a Danville High School Graduate of 1965. He worked as a delivery driver for many years for Orange and Blue. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #184. He was also a member of the APA Vermillion 8-Ball and served on the Vermillion County Park Board. He was a big fan of the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Fighting Illini. He was looking forward to going fishing with Jaxy Alan and spent a good amount of time fishing the Wabash River. He cherished time spent with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Dicks life will be held at 11:00am (EST), Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, DeVerter Chapel, 215 N. Division Street, Cayuga, IN 47928 with John Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00pm to 7:00pm (EST), Friday, July 28, 2023, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Thomas Cemetery, Newport, IN. Memorial donations may be given to the donors choice of charity.
