Richard "Dick" Smitley

Covington, Ind. -- Richard "Dick" Smitley,84, of Covington, passed away at 8:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at The Waters of Covington. Dick was born February 3, 1927 in Milford, Iowa, the son of the late Ernest and Ellen Switzer Smitley. He married Karen L. Stephen on April 27, 1974 in Georgetown, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include two son's, Jerry Smitley(Debbie) of Covington, Indiana and Michael W. Lomax of Covington, Indiana; one sister, Betty Becker of Georgetown, Illinois. He was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers. Dick retired as a supervisor at General Electric. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the United States Army. Dick was a 1945 graduate of Harris High School in Harris, Iowa. There will be no public services. Private graveside services and burial of cremains will be held at Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Indiana at a later date. Officiating: Rev. Don Hesler.
