He was born on October 31, 1932 the son of Theodore and Thelma (Hicks) Nicoson. He married Viola Lister December 3, 1952 in Danville and she preceded him in death in 2011. Richard retired in 1994 after 30 years at Hyster, Illinois Power and Grab-It-Here. Dick served in the infantry division of the US Army from 1952 to 1954 earning the rank of Sgt. He received the Korean Service Ribbon, Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medals and National Defense Service Medal for his service in Korea. Dick was active in the Korean War Veteran's Association, Korean War Vet Honor Guard and even went to local grade schools to educate children on the war. The fourth of July firework displays, and family picnics were especially important to him. He loved model railroading.
