Richard 'Dick' Hornaday

Richard "Dick" Young Hornaday, 86, of Covington, IN passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2022 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville, IL. He was born February 24, 1936 in Versailles, MO to Elva (Young) and James William Hornaday. His parents preceded him in death, as well as sisters Mary Jane and Martha Jean Brown, and brother Earl Hornaday. He married Rose Marie Hughes on January 26, 1959. She preceded him in death along with their children Tina Marie Hornaday and Richard Lee Hornaday, and great-granddaughter, Heavenly. Richard is also survived by his niece, Bess Huls of Danville; granddaughter Mary Louise Hornaday; great grandchildren Daniel, Matthew and Vayden of Terre Haute, IN; close friends Travis & Kelly Walters of Covington; and several nieces & nephews. Richard loved living in the Covington area and worked as a mechanic at Warrick Ford in Covington. He later retired from Tee-Pak in Danville, IL. He was well known for his love of the outdoors and had a lifelong passion for deer hunting and fishing. Richard was also very particular about maintaining his yard, home and vehicles. Often when asked how he was, his usual response was "Fat and Sassy." The family would especially like to thank Dr. Sodhi and staff, along with Hawthorne Inn and Carle Hospice for care and support. A celebration of Richards life will be held at 2:30pm (EST), on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932 with Jim Russell officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 2:30pm on Saturday prior to his service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given in his name to donors choice of charity.
