Richard 'Dick' Carter Helck

Danville - Richard "Dick" Carter Helck, 90, of Danville passed away on May 19, 2018 at Country Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Gifford, IL. "Dick" was born on March 31, 1928 the son of Harry and Elma (Carter) Helck in Danville, IL. He married Helen "Joan" Colvin on December 29,1950 in International Falls, MN and she preceded him in death on June 27, 2007. Survivors include two sons; Richard (Mary Ellen) Helck and Gary (Lorelei) Helck, one daughter; Cathy Helck, one sister; Janice Gudauskas, 11 grandchildren; John (Tiffany) Leahy, Julie Leahy, Dean (Tammy) Leahy, Richard Helck, Robert Helck, Jonathan Helck, Gidean Helck, Kirsten (Chris) Brown-Labounty, Debbie Pifer, Brenda Pifer and Brian (Tracy) Pifer, eight great-grandchildren; Matthew Pifer, Alana Pifer, Rylan Leahy, Levi Leahy and Michael Leahy, Elijah Lee, Selena Lee, and Jaxson Labounty as well as several close friends. "Dick" is preceded in death by his parents, wife; "Joan" and one infant grandson; Paul Helck. "Dick" served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Danville First United Methodist Church and retired from General Motors in 1986. In his free time, "Dick" enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and Amusement Parks. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Raymie Gordon will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 5:00 - 8:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210.
