Richard Alvin Bowman Sr. 86, of Danville passed away at 12:45 am Thursday February 18, 2016 at the Veteran's Hospital Palliative Care Unit with family by his side. Richard was born November 12, 1929. The son of Clarence and Etta (Porter) Bowman in Fisher, Illinois. The family moved to Danville when Richard was young and he attended Danville Schools graduating from Danville High School. He went into the air force in 1948. On July 2, 1950 he married the love of his life Jacqueline Tabels, after a 3 year courtship. Richard worked for C&EI/L&N/CSX Railroad, starting out in the yards and eventually as an engineer from 1950 to his retirement in 1983. Richard was a member of Mason's 980, Gao Grotto and other organizations throughout his life. He was a Master Gardner, he loved growing his famous tomatoes, white orchids and huge garden every year. He was a carpenter, he worked on cars, especially restoring antique cars. He was a jack of all trades. He loved people and life. After retirement, Richard and Jackie traveled to Florida and Texas for the winters. Visiting family in Florida and their daughter Nancy in Texas. Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, his children, Linda (Gary) Vancamp, Debi (Marv) Davis, Nancy Crain, Richard (Laura) Bowman Jr. and Cheryl (Louis) Worrall. He had 10 grandchildren Jeff (Theresa) Vancamp, Karen (Eric) Crain Agre, Michelle (Rudy) Crain Perez, Amber (Aaron) Bowman Todd, Heather (Jim) Davis Spencer, Steven (Monica) Crain, Coty Worrall, Joshua Bowman, Cheyenne (fianc Cody Erwin) Worrall. Richard also has 18 great grandchildren. Richard was proceeded in death by his parents and Brother Robert Bowman, a sister Wilma (Bowman) Harrison and a grandson, Thomas Christopher Vancamp. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Heidale officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday February 22, 2016. Funeral will be Tuesday February 23, 2016 at 3:00 pm with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
